The Grangettes gondola from Courchevel Village to Courchevel 1850 is being replaced. The old four-seated cabins will be replaced by new cabins with seating for 10 skiers and taking 2 minutes 55 seconds instead of five minutes. The uplift capacity will be 2400 people per hour.
The Grangettes Gondola takes skiers, snowboarders and pedestrians up from the bottom of the Trovets blue run at Courchevel 1550 to the bottom of the Courchevel 1850 village at the meeting point of the lifts heading out up the mountains from there. This is a useful link if you’re exploring the pistes or visiting/staying at Courchevel 1550.
To live up to this exceptional site, the emphasis was placed on the design and comfort of passengers. By choosing 40 ten-passenger Diamond Evo cabins with a dark and elegant design—lit by LEDs powered by solar panels—Courchevel is the first resort in France to be equipped with such an installation.
The old gondola was a small 4 seater which struggled to keep up with demand at busy times. The new one is a beauty, the latest from the biggest name in ski lifts, Poma. The model is called the Evo, it seats 10 and has plenty of space to stand up. It has lighting inside and out for evening use and a range of features to make the ride a bit more comfortable.
The new gondola will open in December 2018.
The installation in a nutshell:
• Lenght: 1027 m
• Capacity: 2400 pph
• Vertical rise: 273m
• Number of cabins: 33
• Speed: 6 m/s
• Number of passengers per cabin: 10
